One area where the 50-year-old HST multiple units are still widely used is Scotland. They run at frequent intervals on the diesel routes to Aberdeen and Inverness. The trains are branded as ‘Inter7City’ by Scotrail because they connect the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness. The first HST from the south began its journey in Edinburgh and arrived in Aberdeen shortly after 8 am.
