On the line from St. Gallen to Romanshorn, there is a steady gradient of 18 per mille, descending nearly 300 metres in altitude over a distance of 20 km. With several sweeping bends and, for the most part, good views of Lake Constance and the Alpine foothills, I consider it one of the more scenic routes in eastern Switzerland. With three trains an hour, the service is also fairly frequent. A Thurbo GTW double-unit runs on the St. Gallen S1 line from Will to Schaffhausen.
