When I left the hotel on 17 February, the sun was shining in my face. I started the day full of optimism. According to the weather services, the weather was supposed to be rather overcast that morning, as an armada of clouds had been forecast. There wasn’t a cloud to be seen far and wide, but I soon found myself driving into the fog. It didn’t lift during the one-hour drive to the Idriss I Reservoir. I had to forget about the spot I’d planned near Oulad Ayyad (أولاد عياد). I drove there anyway, hoping the fog would clear in the 40 minutes before the train passed. I was wrong; the fog was closing in ever more on Matmata (مطماطة). Far too late, I decided to change location. For this to work, the Al Altas 101 would have to be running late, but the app showed no delay. No sooner had I parked the car than I heard the diesel locomotive approaching in the distance. Thanks to a quick sprint, I managed to take this photo, which shows the DH 410 pulling the Al Altas 101 on its journey from Fes (فاس) to Beni Ansar (بْني نصار).
